Larry Mueller was born on August 11th, 1964 in Shaler Township. His parents, Bob and Marie, met in 1950 and got married shortly after. They had seven sons including Larry. Marie was very active in the civil rights movement and brought Larry along to fight for rights for minorities.
He later moved to Wexford and attended North Allegheny Senior High School. While in high school, he participated in the band and sang in the concert choir. Students at the high school picked on him for being in the band. "I feel that the band helped define me as a person," Mueller said.
Following high school, Mueller attended the Community College of Allegheny County and received an associate's degree in Business Data Processing. He then went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned a bachelor's of science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business.
He is very active at his church Saints John and Paul Parish. He participates in the men's club, RCIA, and coordinates the ushers. RCIA is a group that educates adults about the catholic religion so they can become catholic. Every year, Mueller sends care packages to college students to promote their faith while they are away at school.
In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, playing video games, exercising, doing yard work, cooking, shopping, and spending time with his family.
In 1996, Mueller had been working at CompUSA selling computers to businesses when one of the businesses asked about local sales in Pittsburgh. There was not a salesperson in Pittsburgh at the time, so the company contacted Mueller about an opportunity. SHI reached out to Mueller later that day and performed a phone interview. That same week he was flown to New Jersey to meet with the owner of the company. "I remember telling my wife that it was a very interesting company, but I wasn't sure how my interview went," Mueller said. The next day the company offered him the position. Mueller has worked for SHI for 25 years now, he sells computers and software to businesses in western Pennsylvania. However, this year, his position changed to selling to the public sector and covering higher education accounts. The change was difficult as he worked with many customers from the beginning 25 years ago.
Mueller worked from home from the beginning, which was very unusual for the time. Because he visited customers often, it didn't matter where his office was. The company provided a computer, fax machine, and phone. His days consisted of talking to customers on the phone and traveling to their offices. Visiting customers is not possible now because of the coronavirus as his customers no longer work in an office. His days now consist of zoom calls, he has many more meetings now because it is much easier over the internet.
